Fire Science

Associate of Applied Science Degree

Prepare to become a Firefighter and or a Paramedic. Through hands-on experience and career connections with local fire departments, you will learn the specialized demands of this highly diversified and technological career.

Why choose this program?
  • Become a Nationally Certified Emergency Medical Technician.
  • Emergency Medical Technician training is part of the first year in the Fire Science program.
  • Receive training that will prepare you to test for your National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Firefighter 1 and Hazardous Materials Operations level certifications.
  • Classroom and hands-on training on campus and the opportunity to train and run calls with career firefighters through our Cooperative Work Experience (CWE) program. These are usually 24-hour shifts but can be modified to fit your individual needs. CWE is typically started during the second or third term but this too can be modified to fit your needs.
  • Build relationships with local fire departments.

Program Options

  • After completing the first two terms you will have the training to test to become a Nationally Certified EMT. This will allow you to work for various agencies in the area while you continue your firefighter studies.
  • In a dual degree option with the EMS program, you can earn the Fire Science and Paramedicine degrees. This prepares you to become a Nationally Certified Paramedic.
  • After completing your AAS in Fire Science you can transfer to a four-year degree program in Fire Science Administration at Western Oregon State or Eastern Oregon State.
