Emergency Medical Services

Victoria College’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program provides quality EMS education to meet the growing demand for competent EMTs and Paramedics. Our Paramedic classes are designed for the working EMT as we follow a shift-based schedule. Our National Registry pass rates are well above the state and national averages. Graduate and Employer satisfaction surveys are also outstanding.

VC EMS offers the following:

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Certificate

  • Complete in one semester: Offered Fall and Spring (evenings) and Summer (days)
  • Prerequisites acceptance into Victoria College, TSI complete, background check, drug screen, immunizations, CPR card.

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) – Certificate

  • EMT plus one semester (Spring or Fall)
  • EMS Pharmacology is prerequisite (Spring or Summer)

Paramedic – Certificate

Emergency Medical Services degree - AAS Degree

If you have your Paramedic certificate, you can complete your Associate of Applied Science Degree at the Victoria College by taking these classes.

After Paramedic Certificate to Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree is accepted:

  • Apply to Victoria College and request transcripts be sent to the Admissions & Records Office.
  • File degree application with Admissions & Records Office

Upon successful completion of the requisite courses at VC, student will contact EMS Program Director for credit by exam to apply for college credit for Paramedic certificate.

EMS is a selective- admissions program. You must complete all prerequisites, which include acceptance into Victoria College, EMS application, immunizations, background check, drug screen, TSI or equivalent complete and interview with the Program Director.

Paramedic Courses

Candidates must hold current EMT certification and have completed AEMT course work.

The Paramedic class begins each August and completes in May of the following year.

The online course, EMS Pharmacology should be taken as a prerequisite in the spring or summer semester. We begin accepting applications in June.

Classes are flipped so recorded lectures are completed at home allowing more class time for skills and scenarios.

Paramedics who want to advance their knowledge can apply for EMSP 2358 – Critical Care Paramedic course in the fall semester. This 3-hour course is a prep course for the IBSC Flight Paramedic and/or Critical Care Paramedic licensure exam(s). The course is hybrid with labs utilizing IABP, transport ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring of the adult, pedi and neonate including the unborn and FAST exams.

These specialty certifications are Board certified as the highest level for Paramedics intending to work in critical care transport on ground or air.

The goal of the Paramedic Program is to prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels.
