Welding Basic

Overview

The Welding Basic program courses are offered in a variety of ways to meet the students schedule and educational goals. Students will learn to use hand-welding, flame-cutting, hand-soldering, or brazing equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.

Basic Evening Program courses, (Weatherford Program) in any order, include:

• WLDG.1000 – Introduction to Welding 48 contact hours
• WLDG.1002 – Fundamentals of Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) 48 contact hours
• WLDG.1007 – Welding Multi-Process 64 contact hours
• WLDG.1006 – Fundamentals of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) 48 contact hours
• WLDG.1027 – Welding Codes & Standards 64 contact hours
• WLDG.1017 – Introduction to Layout & Fabrication 64 contact hours

Requirements

Applicants must complete the Welding Basic program application BEFORE they can be admitted into the program and are eligible for registration. If under 18, Minor Consent Form is required and must be completed then uploaded with the application. Students will be required to purchase and bring to each class the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including:

• Safety glasses
• Leather welding gloves,
• Welding helmet - Auto-tint with adjustable shade range 4/9-13 preferred
• Leather boots
• Heavy material pants
• Long sleeve shirt
• Long sleeve jacket
• Respirator  (Optional)
• Hand-held angle grinder
• Chipping hammer
• Welding pliers

Career Options

Upon successful completion, graduates will receive a Weatherford College certificate of completion. Students can work as an Aluminum Welder, Assembly Line Brazer, Fabrication Welder, Fabricator, Maintenance Welder, Solderer, Sub Arc Operator, Welder, or Wirer.

Funding assistance through the Workforce Education Grant and Weatherford College Foundation Scholarship for Workforce Education may be available for eligible applicants, until funds are depleted. Please visit the Financial Assistance page for applications. This program does not qualify for FAFSA.
