Human Service Provider

Overview

The Human Service Provider Associate degree at Weatherford College prepares the student for careers in the fields of social work, human services, and substance abuse. Specific objectives of this program are to introduce the student to the sociological, psychological and social work perspectives of mental health, drug and alcohol issues, interviewing and assessment techniques, case management, counseling techniques, and group dynamics. Practicums and internships will be offered to allow the student to experience the actual field of human service provider and substance abuse counseling. Students completing this program will have met the requirements for state licensure examination as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC). A final practicum will be used to verify workplace competencies (Capstone). Students successfully completing the program would be awarded the Associate of Applied Science degree in Human Service Provider Associate.

Requirements

Admission to Weatherford College does not guarantee selective admission to the Human Service/Substance Abuse Counseling program. The number of 100 students admitted to this program is limited. Students admitted to this program will be selected on the basis of admission to the college, reading and writing level, prior educational achievements and an interview with the program director. All potential students need to complete an application, submit a criminal background check and any prior education. Career Options

Students completing this program will have met the requirements for state licensure examination as a licensed chemical dependency counselor. Social and Human Service Assistant

Assist professionals from a wide variety of fields, such as psychology, rehabilitation, or social work, to provide client services, as well as support for families. May assist clients in identifying available benefits and social and community services and help clients obtain them. May assist social workers with developing, organizing, and conducting programs to prevent and resolve problems relevant to substance abuse, human relationships, rehabilitation, or adult daycare.

Many students find employment with and while in their Practicum placement experience. Students also discover their passion for learning and go on to pursue a higher degree at 4 year universities.

Fees / Costs

Students will be charged a $15.00 Lab Fee for DAAC 2307 and a one time liability insurance Fee of $35.00 for DAAC 11166/ DAAC2266. Students will also be charged another one time liability insurance fee for SCWK 2287/SCWK 2387 in the second year of study.
