Students also learn techniques and procedures needed to assist with various lab procedures, including specimen processing. The phlebotomist must recognize any conditions that might alter collections, correlate types of lab tests to the written diagnosis, and communicate with both the laboratory and the patients to provide the best care possible and assure specimen integrity.
