Nurse Aide (Continuing Education)

Short Term

Durham Tech provides several pathways to becoming a Nurse Aide. Through these pathways, students learn the basic nursing skills required to care for patients in a variety of health care settings. Through classroom instruction, laboratory work, and clinical rotations, students prepare to pass the NC Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation, which is required in order to be listed on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry. Evidence of negative TB test, uniform, and supplies are required. The student, at his or her expense, will also be required to undergo a criminal background check and show proof of specific immunizations prior to beginning the clinical portion of the training. A drug screen is required for the hospital-based course. Certain findings on the criminal background check or drug screen may prohibit students from completing the program.

“The Nurse Aide Program is really fun and hands-on. The labs are great, the teachers are really helpful and there are so many resources available to us. I feel like once it’s time for me to step out into the field, I’ll have a really good idea understanding of what to do.”
