Veterinary Assistants assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with medical care for sick and injured animals. Job duties include holding animals during examinations, nail trims and blood draws, sterilizing lab and surgical equipment, preparing of samples for lab examination and more. This Kishwaukee College-Veterinary Assistant is a non-credit program that consists of 150 hours of classroom instruction and 100 hours of hands-on externship in a veterinarian's office/clinic or animal hospital/clinic. The purpose of the course is to provide training in the professional skills required to function as a Veterinary Assistant and to prepare students to pass the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) Certification Exam.
