Medical Assistants are integral team members of health care teams, and this course work prepares students to be part of physician offices that provide essential medical care to patients. Students will be eligible to take the NHA certification exam to become Clinical Medical Assistants.

Effective January 1, 2022: We have elected to require the COVID-19 vaccination as part of the Allied Health Programs' "health requirements" to remain compliant with the requirements of our affiliates. The first vaccine series injection must be administered before classes start, January 4, with the second dose administered by February 1.

Foundations for Healthcare Careers
This course prepares students for healthcare careers by covering essential concepts and professional skills. Topics include medical terminology, HIPAA, patient rights, and workplace professionalism. Communication skills, especially customer service and interpersonal communication, are emphasized. Students will also learn resume writing, interviewing, and job maintenance skills. Foundations is a prerequisite course for CNA, Phlebotomy, and Medical Assistant. A mandatory orientation is required on the first day of class, so do not be late. Approval is required prior to registration for this course. Clinical Medical Assistant II is the third of a five-part series for students wanting to take the NHA certification exam to become a Certified Medical Assistant. Students will continue to learn basic patient skills, their role as a member of the health care team, disease processes, cultural diversity, infection control, and safety issues through lectures, discussion, and hands-on practice. In CMA II, students will continue to build upon knowledge and skills learned in CMA I. This course focuses on a medical assistant's role in a variety of settings, as well as continued practice on all medical assistant skill competencies. NHA access code is included in the price of this course. No external materials are required. Successful completion of HCE 156 - Clinical Medical Assistant I is required. Completion of BLS CPR is required. Completion of Clinical Externship vaccination and health requirements must be completed prior to the end of this course.

Administrative Medical Assistant is the fourth of a five-part series for students wanting to take the NHA certification exam to become a Certified Medical Assistant. This course emphasizes the skills needed to take a patient through an entire office visit encounter. The student will learn the proper use of clinical/physician office equipment, basic ICD-10 and CPT coding procedures, as well as billing and banking procedures. Students will become proficient and advance their skills in all areas of the medical clinical setting in order to enter their externship. As an Administrative CMA, the student will continue to build upon knowledge and skills learned in CMA I and CMA II. The student will learn the role of a medical assistant in a variety of settings in order to function as a health care professional within the office. NHA access code is included in the price of this course. No external materials are required. Successful completion of HCE 157 - Clinical Medical Assistant II is required.
