Combination Welding Certificate CIMA-1160 

Learn the essential skills and knowledge required to become a combination welder. By enrolling in this short-term, hands-on program, students will receive instruction in all position welding in the areas of stick welding, MIG welding and TIG welding. Included in this program is a test preparation class for an American Welding Society certification, where students will have the opportunity to test in one of the three welding methods. Classes include MIG Welding Basic; Stick Welding Basic; TIG Welding Basic.

Program Completion Requirements:
This is a pass/fail certificate. Mandatory safety training and 70 percent attendance is required to complete and receive the certificate. The AWS exam is a separate entity and does not affect completion of the program.

Course Objectives:
• Learn the basics of various welding methods of stick welding, MIG welding, and TIG welding.
• Identify and implement proper size bead for welds.
• Self-correct common welding errors and adjust technique as needed.
• Select proper current settings for welding.
• Prepare welding equipment for safe use.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to pursue a career in various types of welding and metal fabrication. This will also prepare students to take the American Welding Society Certification Exam in either stick, MIG, or TIG welding.

Other Items to Know About this Course:
The following textbook will need to be purchased separately: “Welding Skills” (5th Edition) by B.J. Moniz and R.T. Miller (ISBN 978-0826930842). Students must also provide personal protective equipment including steel-toe or composite-toe boots/shoes, safety glasses, welding gloves, and a welding helmet.
