TECHNICAL CERTIFICATES |

 

Technical certificates are available in certain technical areas as listed on the following pages. A technical certificate requires 24 to 75 credit hours of course work for completion depending on the course of study. Students must earn a grade of “C” or better in each required course. Exceptions to program requirements must have the approval of the Dean of the division and the Chief Academic Officer. The last 15 hours of regular course work must be completed at the College. If a student plans to complete certificate requirements at the end of any given semester, it will be necessary for him/her to file an application with the Registrar’s Office no later than the end of the sixth week of that semester.

 


 

Administrative Support

The Technical Certificate in Administrative Support prepares an individual to provide administrative support to office managers, administrative assistants, and other office personnel.  This certificate builds on the skills obtained with the Certificate of Proficiency in Clerical Support and provides students with more advanced software applications skills, basic accounting skills and enhanced customer service skills.  Individuals with this certificate are prepared to become valued team players in a variety of office settings.  Students are also given the opportunity to obtain Microsoft Office certifications in Word and Excel.  All courses in the Technical Certificate in Administrative Support can be applied toward the Associate of Applied Science degree in Office Management.

 

 

Air Conditioning and Refrigeration

The one year certificate in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration is designed to prepare students for careers in this trade. Students will develop and practice skills for servicing, repairing, installing, and sizing air conditioning and refrigeration equipment for residential applications. All candidates for the Technical Certificate in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration will be required to take the HVAC Excellence Environmental Protection Agency Section 608 Certification Exam. Students wishing to enter this program should discuss their career objectives with the HVAC instructor and/or their advisor to ensure this is the appropriate track for them.

 

 

Aviation Maintenance

This program is designed for students who intend to become certified aviation mechanics, but do not wish to obtain a college degree at this time. Students who successfully complete this program will be eligible to take the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification exams for Airframe Mechanic, Powerplant Mechanic, or both (A&P). This program is approved by the FAA, which requires that every single required hour of instruction be given to each student. Because of this requirement and the vital importance of mechanical performance, class attendance is an absolute must to remain in good standing in the program. Failure to attend the classes in accordance with instructor established guidelines may result in dismissal from the program. The program is divided into three separate segments: general aviation, airframe, and power plant. The required segments are taken sequentially in an intensive combination of lecture and laboratory learning. Students may be required to attend classes as many as 30 clock hours per week. Consult with your advisor each semester to determine an appropriate schedule.

 

 

Child Development

The Technical Certificate for Early Childhood Education is a one year certificate that provides the student with the knowledge and skills needed to work with young children and the families they serve.  Students gain necessary knowledge about child growth and learning and get hands-on field experiences.  Students also learn strategies that will help the childcare professional succeed in the daily routine and requirements of the work place.  The Technical Certificate builds on the Certificate of Proficiency, and contains courses embedded in the Associate of Applied Science degree in Early Childhood Education.  Students must earn a grade of "C" or above in each required course in order to receive a Technical Certificate from ANC.

Program Outcomes

  • Incorporate knowledge of child growth and learning with field observations to develop the cognitive, physical and affective domains of children.

  • Practice a variety of observation tools and assessments to document a child's growth and development.

  • Design curriculum, and plan environments with activities and materials that are safe and developmentally appropriate.

 

 

Computer Information Systems

The Technical Certificate in Computer Information Systems presents a basic foundation of knowledge in computer hardware, software, and networking.  This one-year certificate provides a broad base of knowledge in information technology and individuals with this certificate are prepared to become valuable members as part of an IT team in business and industry.  All courses in a Computer Information Systems Certificate of Proficiency can be applied toward the Technical Certificate in Computer Information Systems and courses in the Technical Certificate in Computer Information Systems can be applied toward the Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Information Systems.  Students must earn a "C" or above in each required course in order to receive a technical certificate from Arkansas Northeastern College.

 

 

Dental Assisting

The one year certificate in Dental Assisting Technology is designed to train dental assistants with the knowledge to perform the technical duties in all areas of the modern dental office. The Dental Assisting Technology program is based on a science-oriented program of study and skill development offered at the post-secondary level that requires critical thinking, psychomotor skills, and ethical reasoning. The program consists of formal training needed to assist the dentist in the dental operatory, the laboratory, and the dental business office. Upon successful program completion, students are eligible to sit for the Dental Assisting National Board certification and to apply for registration with the Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners. The program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. Students must provide recent COMPASS/ASSET/ACT scores that meet the minimum required skill level. All recommended Academic Strengthening (College Prep) courses must be completed prior to admission into the program. Students wishing to enter this program should discuss their career objectives with an advisor to ensure this is the appropriate track for them. Program applicants must be 18 years old and have a high school diploma or have earned a GED. Students are admitted in the Dental Assisting Program based on selective admission criteria. Refer to Dental Assisting Information Guidelines located on the ANC Allied Health Website. This program of study includes special program fees beyond current tuition and college fees.

 

 

Paramedic

The 12 month Paramedic Technical Certificate Program provides education and training to EMT’s in advanced pre-hospital care. This program meets the requirements of the Arkansas Department of Health, Section of Emergency Medical Services and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). The program combines hybrid courses (classroom and on-line), didactic, clinical and field experiences to provide the Paramedic student with the diversity of knowledge necessary to function effectively as a professional provider of advanced life support outside of the hospital environment. Students wishing to apply to the Paramedic Program should discuss their career objectives with the Nursing and Allied Health Advisor to ensure this is the appropriate program to meet their career goals.

 

 

Practical Nursing

The technical certificate in Practical Nursing (PN) is a ten and one-half (10.5) month program approved by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing and prepares individuals for the practice of Licensed Practical Nursing. This program integrates clinical experience with classroom theory. Students obtain clinical experience in acute care hospitals, longterm care facilities, doctor’s offices, and public schools, etc. The PN Program is offered at the ANC Main Campus in Blytheville each year beginning in August. Students wishing to enter this program should discuss their career objectives with an advisor to ensure this is the appropriate program for them. The Practical Nursing Program has selective admission criteria. Students must score a 100 or greater on the PAX- PN Exam and have a minimal grade point average of 2.0 on all college or prerequisite courses. A grade of “C” or above is required in all academic courses required for the Technical Certificate in Practical Nursing. Teaching

The Technical Certificate in Teaching is a designed pathway for students wanting to pursue a career in teaching elementary education.  The student will gain the foundational knowledge and field experiences needed to work with school age children.  The Technical Certificate recognizes 15 hours of specific education coursework, as well as 16 hours of general education coursework that is required on the Associate of Arts in Teaching and beyond.  Students must earn a grade of "C" or better in English Composition I and the math requirement.

Welding

The one year certificate in Welding is designed for students wishing to secure marketable welding skills. Through an organized progression of steps, the student builds ability with the different welding processes offered. Progression is competency based. Students will achieve different levels of expertise, determined by their interest, aptitude, and participation in class. Welder Qualification is available. All structural qualification testing will be done in accordance with American Welding Society Structural code D1.1. All pipe qualifications will adhere to Section 1X of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers welding code.
