Medical Laboratory Technicians are essential members of a patient’s health care team. Technicians collect and test specimens to provide results on which physicians make medical decisions. You will study diseases and testing procedures and learn how to operate lab equipment.

Are you meticulous about details? Do you thrive in a routine and task-oriented environment? Curious about tissues, cells and medical testing? Then you are well suited for a medical lab technician career!

The Missouri Health Professions Consortium (MHPC) Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program at SFCC is coordinated through Moberly Area Community College (MACC). The program includes virtual classroom instruction, laboratory hands-on skills instruction on scheduled dates throughout the semester at MACC, and an off-campus clinical rotation component.

Upon graduation, you are eligible to take the American Society for Clinical Pathology certification exam. Graduates who pass are recognized nationally as Medical Laboratory Technicians and are ready for a career in a variety of health care settings.

Accreditation

The MHPC Medical Laboratory Technician program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.

 

Occupational Outlook

Employment opportunities for MLTs in Missouri are above average. Salaries range from $29,640 to $79,530.

Admission to this program is competitive and limited, and prerequisites are required. This program starts in August, and application deadline is typically in May. You are required to submit all application materials to the Missouri Health Professions Consortium MLT admissions office in Mexico, Missouri, by the deadline.
