A Medical Assistant is a valuable member of the healthcare team. They perform daily administrative tasks as well as assisting in minor clinical procedures to keep doctor's offices, hospitals, clinics and other healthcare facilities running smoothly. According to the United States Department of Labor, the Medical Assistant profession is expected to be one of the fastest growing occupations over the next ten years.

This program prepares students to be multi-tasked members of the health care team in a clinic, physician’s office or other medical facilities. Administrative competencies train the students in medical and legal issues, professionalism, communication skills, safety, medical equipment maintenance, computing, bookkeeping, and in medical office skills. Clinical competencies train the student to work in direct patient care. Students are trained to handle specimens, draw blood, give medications, and give immunizations. Graduates of the CMA certificate option and AAS graduates are eligible to take the national certification examination through the AAMA and/or AMT.

The Medical Assisting program is fully accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants’ Endowment.
