Our Student Learning Outcomes

After completing our Computed Tomography Technology (CT) Program, our students should be able to perform the following tasks effectively.

To be eligible to participate in the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Computed Tomography Technology Examination, students must complete the clinical experience learning outcomes.

Patient Care

  • Elicit such information about the patient that might indicate a risk of contrast reaction prior to any procedure using patients’ chart, radiographic file jacket, and/or by questioning the patient.
  • Evaluate patient preparation prior to commencing a procedure.
  • Instruct the patient prior to and during procedures.
  • Recognize emergency patient conditions and initiate lifesaving first aid when necessary.

Technical Skills

  • Apply knowledge of CT physics and safety regulations to the practice of Computed Tomography Technology, thereby reducing the risk of harm or injury to the patient, public, fellow workers, and self.
  • Prepare contrast media to be administered, when indicated, to patients by oral and/or intravenous methods.
  • Understand and utilize CT devices and other related equipment used for the acquisition of images.
  • Perform CT protocols, understanding these procedures sufficiently well to exercise judgment in the performance of these examinations for the benefit of the patient and to improve the diagnostic quality of the images produced.

Administrative Functions*

  • Participate in procurements of supplies and equipment required to operate the facility.
  • Document all operations of the CT procedures and daily operational procedures.
  • Participate in equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Participate in scheduling of patient examinations.

*The Administrative Functions outcomes are secondary to and not as essential as Patient Care and Technical Skills outcomes. However, students would still benefit from these outcomes if time permits and opportunities are available.
