Practical Nursing (LPN)

The Practical Nursing Certificate Program (PN) prepares pre-nursing students for entry into the health care system in just under one year!

Nursing at GCCC has been a part of our school since the 1970s, when our first graduating class of registered nurses (RNs) matriculated in 1972. We believe our graduates have the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities necessary to practice safely, effectively, and with compassion.

Upon successful completion of the PN program, students are awarded a Practical Nurse certificate from GCCC and are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination.

Our Program

Entrance into the PN program requires a current Kansas Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) certificate. The PN program at GCCC is a competitive program, and has a selective admissions policy. Nursing courses, in general, are challenging and require generous study and preparation time outside of the classroom. If you are a pre-nursing student interested in transitioning to the PN program, you will work with nursing faculty members for a personalized plan of study.

Scholarships

All students who complete a scholarship application for our nursing program and are eligible receive some kind of scholarship (amounts vary). Students can also apply for Financial Aid and outside scholarships to help fund their education.

Class Size

Our PN program is limited to maximum of 40 students and is regulated by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. Full-time nursing faculty members teach numerous courses covering the foundations of nursing, pharmacology, gerontology, and clinicals. Real-world experience coupled with classroom learning means that our graduates leave with the skills they need to work in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, physicians' offices, and more.

In addition, the GCCC Practical Nursing Program is approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing, and the Associate Degree Program is approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing and is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). See our nursing accreditation page for further detail. Certain GCCC programs have also obtained other specific individual accreditation. GCCC has been accepted for the continuous quality improvement accreditation model by the national Academic Quality Improvement Project.
