Computer Science

The Associate of Applied Science in Computer Science gives students a foundation in computer programming and software development and provides academic as well as hands-on coursework in programming, web design, database design and SQL, systems administration and network theory. This Computer Science program will provide students a clear transition to employment in the fields of software development and/or into the Bachelor of Applied Technology in Software Engineering.

There is always competition for top engineering talent. Computer software engineers are challenged to keep current with constant changes emerging in computer technology. Those that keep up will be in high demand. In today’s economy, businesses will be paying close attention to web marketing efforts as a way to assist with slumping sales. Software engineers with expertise in the consumer, user-generated web sector should be in particular demand.

Learn And Earn Program

West Virginia University at Parkersburg offers students the opportunity to gain paid work experience while completing their associate in Computer Science through a state-funded program called Learn and Earn.

The Learn and Earn program is sponsored by the West Virginia Community and Technical College System, and is part of the Workforce Development Initiative Program. It is an opportunity to create partnerships between industry and community and technical colleges by allowing students hands-on learning experience, and employers to train ideal future employees.
