Program: Electrical Technology

Overview

Electrical Technology

Long Beach City College prepares students for entry-level employment in numerous electrical and electrically related trades. Upon completion of the Electrical Technology program, the student will be able to install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment and systems in a safe and workman-like manner. Thanks to our local voters, a $22M Bond investment through Measure E has made it possible for Long Beach City College to build two new buildings at PCC campus in the Fall of 2018 and modernize our Electrical Technology facilities to provide a more robust education and training program for this high-demand industry.

Once a student has completed the program, that student will be allowed to register to take the Electrician’s Certification Exam.

PROGRAM INFO

Those interested in Long Beach City College’s (LBCC) Electrical Technology Program are required to complete the steps below.

REQUIREMENTS

Before you can apply to any of the Electrical Technology programs, you must first apply for admission to Long Beach City College. Please take a look at our enrollment guides on the Get Started section for more information.

If you wish to have classes from other colleges evaluated, please bring an official transcript to Admissions & Records. Evaluations can take up to one month to be completed, so be sure to start this process as early as possible.

Log into the Viking Student System/Viking Portal and complete LBCC online orientation and all the necessary steps to officially become an LBCC student.

Students interested in any of the Electrical Technology programs are required to complete the ELECT 600 course. This course is a co-requisite to the following listed courses: ELECT 202, ELECT 204, ELECT 225, ELECT 253, CISCO 250, and CISCO 251.

A complete list of co-requisite classes can be found in the current College Catalogue.

ELECT 600 is designed to introduce future electrical technology students to many facets of our program including safety related topics. During this class, you will meet faculty, learn about safety protocols that are set up to introduce you to industry standards. It is also an opportunity to ask questions about our program offerings and the next steps to a successful career in the Electrical Industry.

Students with college math will be asked to bring an unofficial copy of your transcripts so that you can substitute that class for ELECT 202 and possibly ELECT 225.

If you miss signing up for an ELECT 600 course. Email sfraser@lbcc.edu or sengelhardt@lbcc.edu.

You can register for classes through the Viking Student System/Viking Portal. Be sure to check online for your registration appointment and that all your prerequisites have been met. Returning students who did not attend the previous semester should verify that they are term activated for the current semester.

If you have a hold on your account, you must contact the department listed to clear the hold before you can register.

You can pay your enrollment fees through the Viking Student System/Viking Portal or by visiting the Cashier’s Office on either campus.
