This course introduces basic architectural CAD techniques using AutoCAD software. Topics include basic commands and system hardware and software. Upon completion, students should be able to prepare and plot architectural drawings to scale within accepted architectural standards.

This certification-related course will reflect the 2017 National Electrical Code (NEC), which was adopted by the state in 2018. Thus, students will need to get the 2017 NEC book. The course is designed for the education and training of the Electrical Level 1 code enforcement official who has the responsibility of inspecting residential and small commercial electrical installations in construction up to 20,000 square feet. Upon completion, course participants will have a better understanding of the Electrical Code of the NC State Building Code and will be able to apply the Code in the inspection field. In addition, with the successful completion of this course and the Law & Administration course in conjunction with other education and experience requirements specified by the NC Code Officials Qualification Board, course participants will be eligible to take the Electrical Level 1 state examination for inspector certification.

This certification-related course is designed for the education and training of the Mechanical Level III code enforcement official who has the responsibility of inspecting electrical installations in all types of construction of unlimited size and is built upon the information presented in the Mechanical Levels I and II Standard Inspection Courses. Upon completion, course participants will have a better understanding of the Mechanical Code and the Fuel Gas Code of the NC State Building Code and will be able to apply the Code in the inspection field. In addition, with the successful completion of this course and the Law & Administration course in conjunction with other education and experience requirements specified by the NC Code Officials Qualification Board, course participants will be eligible to take the Mechanical Level III state examination for inspector certification.

This course is designed to cover the principles of electrical wiring as it applies to residential applications. Emphasis is on Ohm’s law, alternating and direct currents, series circuits, parallel circuits and series parallel circuits, use of electrical tools and equipment, wiring materials and many other special subjects. Preventive maintenance and troubleshooting as well as National Electrical Code will be covered.

The Heavy Equipment Operator training program has 3 levels. Successful students have to start at Level 1 and complete all 3 levels. Graduates of the Basic Laboratory Techniques Certificate may find employment as entry-level lab technicians performing such duties as media preparation and sterilization, culture maintenance, and equipment/supply inventory control.

The Histotechnology program at Alamance Community College prepares students to enter the student in labgrowing field of life sciences. Histotechnology is vital to the function of laboratories and the diagnosis of diseases or tissue abnormalities. Hospitals, for-profit laboratories, clinics, and public health facilities all seek qualified histotechnologists. Additional opportunities are available in industrial research, veterinary pathology, marine biology, and forensic pathology. Students completing this program are provided with the knowledge and skills required to prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination using dyes and chemicals which enhance the colors and contrast of the cell and
tissue structures making abnormalities easier to identify under microscopic examination. Specimens are used
to classify diseases and formulate a mode of treatment strategy which will offer patients the greatest possibility of

The Medical Laboratory Technology curriculum prepares individuals to perform clinical laboratory medical lab techsprocedures in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and immunohematology that may be used in the maintenance of health and diagnosis/treatment of disease.

Course work emphasizes mathematical and scientific concepts related to specimen collection, laboratory testing and procedures, quality assessment, and reporting/ recording and interpreting findings involving blood and body fluids.

Graduates will be eligible to take certification examinations given by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification. The associate degree is NOT contingent upon passing a certification or licensure examination.

The Dental Assisting Curriculum prepares individual to assist the dentist in the delivery of dental treatment and to function as integral members of the dental team while performing chairside and related office and laboratory procedures.

Course work includes instruction in general studies, biomedical sciences, dental sciences, clinical sciences, and clinical practice. A combination of lecture, laboratory, and clinical experiences provide students with detailed knowledge in infection/hazard control, radiography, dental materials, preventive dentistry, and clinical procedures.

Upon graduation, graduates will be classified as a Dental Assistant II (DAII). A Dental Assistant II, as defined by the Dental Laws of North Carolina, can perform all legal expanded functions prescribed by a NC licensed dentist. Some of the many expanded functions a DA II can legally perform are: apply sealants, insert matrix bands and wedges, place cavity bases and liners, place and/or remove rubber dams, place and remove temporary restorations, take wax bites, remove sutures, expose radiographs, and perform coronal polish.

This course is designed and approved to prepare the student to become a certified EKG (ECG) Technician / Monitor. The course will cover the anatomy and physiology of the heart, principles of EKG, dysrhythmia recognition of sinus, junctional / atrial rhythms, heart blocks, and bundle branches and ventricular ectopy rhythms. Skills will include operating EKG equipment, running and mounting strips, reading and interpreting 22 types of cardiac lead tracings produced from 12 and 5 lead monitors, and understanding the basics of capnography as it relates to heart function.

This class will help students gain the knowledge needed to acquire a CDL-B permit. The class will cover benefits of having a CDL, safe driving techniques, CDL requirements, CDL Endorsements and review the CDL handbook including testing tips.

CDL-B Permit required. This hands on class is designed to teach students to drive Class B vehicles such as dump trucks and concrete vehicles. This program will prepare the prospective driver to understand safety, driver responsibility and also the laws and regulations governing the motor carrier industry. Upon successful completion, students are qualified to take the CDL-B Exam.

This program utilizes state commission-mandated topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include, but are not limited to, criminal, juvenile, civil, traffic, ABC law, investigative, patrol, custody, court procedures, emergency response, ethics and community relations.

Students must successfully complete and pass all units of study which include the certification examination by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission to receive a Certificate.

Criminal Justice Technology trains students for public service careers in the criminal justice fingerprinting kitfield. Students should have a desire to serve others and have an interest in the well-being of their community. Discipline, self-motivation and a strong sense of right and wrong are key success factors.

This course provides the foundation for the student to function as an Emergency Medical Responder in various pre-hospital settings. After successful completion of the course, students will be prepared to provide basic assessments and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. The class consists of the combination of lecture, web enhanced supplements, skills demonstration and practice, and simulated patient experiences.

This course will provide the foundation for the student to function as an Emergency Medical Technician in various out-of-hospital settings. The class consists of a combination of lecture, web enhanced supplements, skills demonstration and practice, and simulated patient experiences. Successful completion requires 48 hours of clinical experience completed with an EMS agency, a final written exam and scenario based practical exam.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be eligible to take the NC EMT exam with the NCOEMS to be credentialed as an EMT and/or be eligible to take the National Registry EMT exam to be credentialed as a NREMT Emergency Medical Technician.

This course will consist of both online activities and in-class sessions for skills review and testing. Students must successfully complete a final written and practical exam for successful completion of the course. This course meets NCOEMS and NREMT re-credentialing standards for EMT.

Course work includes a writing course (ENG 111) and four FIP courses: Introduction to Fire Protection; Building Construction; Fire Fighting Strategies; and Fire Prevention & Public Education.

Emphasis includes understanding fire characteristics and the structural consequences of fire; risk assessment and management; and relevant research, communications, and leadership methodologies.

The Fire Protection Management Certificate is a 15-hour concentration under the curriculum title of Fire Protection Technology that has been specifically designed to prepare firefighters for mid-level management positions within the fire service. It provides professional development and career enhancement opportunities for those currently employed as well as those newly entering into fire service careers.

Completion of the Certificate will prepare currently-employed students for promotion to or beyond the supervisory level and will be especially beneficial in those agencies requiring the Certificate for promotion to certain levels. Courses taken toward completion of the Certificate apply toward both the diploma, as well as to the Fire Protection Technology Associate in Applied Science degree.

Fees may be waived completely or in part if affiliated with fire department.

Course work includes five FIP courses: Introduction to Fire Protection; Building Construction; Fire Protection Law; Inspections & Codes; and Detection & Investigation. Completion of state certification exam(s), probationary period(s), and other minimum requirements must be met to become a state-certified inspector in the fire service. Completion of this Certificate alone will not grant state certification.

Students entering for the Certificate options are required to meet the same criteria for the diploma and the FIP A.A.S.

This class explores the role of the income maintenance caseworker and provides employability skills training. There are two phases (classes), students are required to complete basic navigation in NCFAST, DSS terminology, keyboarding, computer skills, and complete a Work Keys assessment in Phase I to continue to Phase II: Income Maintenance Caseworker Training. Completing both phases of the course doesn’t guarantee someone a job with DSS, but those who complete the entire program, would be eligible to apply, and preference will be given for any Income Maintenance Caseworker position with DSS, throughout the entire State of North Carolina. The training is not only geared toward DSS and DHHS office jobs. Alamance Community College is an authorized Cisco Networking Academy, with offerings within the CCNA Routing & Switching series. By delivering Cisco approved curriculum and incorporating hands-on labs, ACC provides students with knowledge aligned with the Cisco CCENT and CCNA certification exams.
