The AEMT Course is a one-semester program that has five components:
Classroom lectures, which include cognitive examinations (approximately 94 hours);
Online assignments (approximately 40 hours);
Lab sessions, which include hands-on skills training (approximately 74 hours);
Clinical education (48 hours); and
EMS field mentoring (48 hours).
Through lectures, interactive presentations, skills labs, and simulations, you’ll build the knowledge and skills to care for patients. This course will prepare the student for advanced life-saving skills, including: safety and well-being, airway management, advanced patient assessment methods, electrocardiogram interpretation, vascular access, and administration of emergency medications. This class will prepare the student to perform in the pre-hospital world as an entry-level AEMT.

College of The Albemarle’s (COA) Emergency Medical Science — Bridge program is for qualified applicants who are currently Certified Paramedics in North Carolina or nationally registered, but don’t have a degree. Upon meeting all requirements and admission to the Emergency Medical Science — Bridge program, you’ll receive 43 hours of proficiency credit toward the Emergency Medical Science Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree to represent the Emergency Medical Science major hours for Emergency Medical Technician — Paramedic course work that aren’t required as part of the Emergency Medical Science Bridge program. The Emergency Medical Science curriculum provides individuals with the knowledge, skills and attributes to provide advanced emergency medical care as a paramedic for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system and prepares graduates to enter the workforce. The Paramedic Course is a three-semester program that has five components:

Through lectures, interactive presentations, skills labs, and simulations, you’ll build the knowledge and skills to care for patients. COA’s BLET program is a 16-week Certificate course (typically offered twice a year) designed to give you the essential skills required for entry-level employment as a law enforcement officer. You’ll participate in over 600 hours) of training, including classroom tests, physical training and a physical assessment. At the end of the class, you’ll sit for the certification examination administered by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. In-service classes mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Commission Training and Standards Division (including those for telecommunicators and detention officers) are provided online as well as in a traditional classroom setting.

The 176–hour course includes class, laboratory and clinical learning experiences. Upon satisfactory completion of the course and competency evaluation, the graduate is eligible to apply for listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
