at Evergreen Valley College offers lower division course work for students transferring into four-year
programs in Design, General Studio Practice, History or Art Education. A grade of “C” or better in each
major course and major elective course is required for this degree.
This degree reflects serious, sustained study and achievement in foundational concepts of two-dimensional arts
and graphic design. Hands-on studio practice, digital media skills and art history courses are required to fully
engage students in the language of the visual arts and to introduce students to various theoretical approaches
of art and design. A grade of “C” or better in each major course and major elective course is required for this
degree.
The Associate in Arts Degree in Studio Arts is designed to prepare students for transfer into the CSU, UC, and private art college
baccalaureate degree programs in Studio Arts or similar fields of study. The AA in Studio Arts provides foundational course work
covering a range of materials and techniques, and allows students to gain proficiency in an area of specialization. Skill
development is enhanced by historical and critical analysis, personally driven projects, and professionalism in process and
presentation, with the goal of developing a strong portfolio. This customizable degree allows students to align their course
electives with lower division requirements of desired BA/BFA programs. Fields include Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Industrial Design,
Interior Design, Digital Media, Animation, Illustration, Art Education, and others.
The Automotive Certificate of Achievement is designed to prepare students for entry level
employment in the automotive field as a light line technician. The courses in this certificate
program will introduce students to the tools and equipment used for repair and diagnostic work,
as well as demonstrate how procedures for troubleshooting electrical and mechanical problems
should be carried out. Students will also study the relationships of the Auto industry and the
opportunities it presents. Students must complete each course with a “C” grade or better to be
awarded the certificate.
This course of study provides significant training and applicable skills development for future
employment as automotive service technicians. Topics include: brakes, transmission, air
conditioning, suspension, steering, and basic body chassis electrical systems. Students will acquire
and demonstrate skills using classroom, lab, and on-line vehicle diagnostic/repair simulations using
specialized test equipment and service literature that is consistent with industry practices. Students
will also execute safe, proper, and ethical work practices. Students must complete each course
with a grade of “C” or better.

The Automotive Certificate of Specialization is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment
in the automotive field as a maintenance technician. The courses in this certificate program will introduce
students to the tools and equipment used for routine inspection, light repair, and scheduled
maintenance work, as well as demonstrate proficiency for the non-technical work skills for entry-level
employment. Students will also study the relationships of the Auto industry and the opportunities it
presents. Students must complete each course with a “C” grade or better to be awarded the certificate.
Completed course will appear on the student's transcripts. However, the Certification of Specialization will
only appear on documents obtained directly through the Automotive department.
Successful completion of the courses for the Hybrid Electric Vehicle Maintenance and Repair certificate of
specialization trains students to maintain and repair the most common hybrid electric vehicles. Students
will learn the required knowledge and skills to diagnose hybrid/electric automobiles, SUVs, and light-duty
trucks. Students must complete each course with a grade of “C” or better to be awarded this certificate
of specialization. Completed courses will appear on the student's transcripts. However, the Certification
of Specialization will only appear on documents obtained directly through the Automotive department.
This certificate certifies successful completion of all Basic Skills, Chassis/Drivetrain, and Electrical/Engine
Performance coursework. Meets and/or exceeds CA State Automotive Apprenticeship training
requirements. Students must complete each course with a grade of “C” or better to be awarded the
Certificate in Automotive Technology.
The Smog Specialist certificate is one of several degrees and certificate options offered through
the Automotive Technology Department at Evergreen. This certificate will prepare students
(without a smog license or one expired more than 2 years) for the position of a BAR certified
California Smog Technician. Students will learn the laws, regulations, procedures, consumer
rights and obligations, licenses, tools, and diagnostic skills that are needed to be successful in
the workplace. Students must individually obtain ASE certifications by passing ASE A6, A8, and
L1 certifications, or BAR Equivalent and necessary educational technical training as required by
the Bureau of Auto Repair to meet minimum requirements.
Successful completion of the courses for the American Honda Certificate of Achievement provides
the necessary skills for employment at American Honda as a service technician. Students must
complete each course with a grade of “C” or better to be awarded the Certificate of Achievement
The program teaches students substantive entry and mid-levels skills using AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks and Creo for 3-D modeling and digital prototyping. A “C” grade or better is required in each course to be awarded the certificate.

The C++ Certificate of Specialization prepares students for entry-level employment in computer programming, software testing and integration, and software analysis.
