Herkimer's Computer Science A.S. program curriculum places a strong emphasis on programming theory, object-oriented programming, and data structures, utilizing the C++ programming language.
You'll be able to transfer to a four-year school at full junior status, continue your studies in a more specialized area of Computer Science, and develop software using the C++ programming language.

A three-credit internship experience is designed to integrate the theoretical knowledge learned in the classroom with the practical knowledge of working in the field.
As a graduate, you'll be prepared to:
Effectively engage in proactive approaches to deter crime, and to investigate and apprehend those who break the law
Participate in the field of corrections in the areas of detention, supervision, administration, and rehabilitation of incarcerated persons or those who obtain alternatives to incarceration
Contribute to the criminal justice system as professionals in Federal and State courts
Successfully perform operations necessary to ensure security in both the private and public sector
Demonstrate an understanding of police ethics and how to resolve issues of an ethical nature
Demonstrate an understanding of our correctional system, the concepts of probation and parole, the nature of punishment, and trends in corrections
In partnership with the Little Falls Police Department, Herkimer College offers Phase I Pre-Employment Police Basic Training. This first phase of pre-employment training is open to civilians and sworn police officers as an alternative to the conventional manner of conducting the Basic Course for Police Officers. The program will prepare students to begin preparation for a career as a police officer prior to being hired by a law enforcement agency. As a further benefit, the program provides law enforcement agencies and municipalities with a diverse pool of trained police officer candidates.
The Little Falls Police Department has administered the part-time Basic Course for Police Officers, and other law enforcement specialty topics, since 1997. LFPD also sponsored the Cazenovia Pre-Employment Program since 2004. They have trained hundreds of law enforcement officers from police and sheriff departments throughout New York State.

As a Forensic Investigations major at Herkimer College, you’ll develop occupational competence for entry into public law enforcement and/or private investigative fields.
Successful graduates of this program:
Use skills and knowledge needed to work within the Criminal Justice field
Understand the fundamentals of processing a crime scene
Obtain the complex skills required of a crime scene investigator/photographer
Locate, document, and collect physical evidence at a crime scene
Ensure the chain of custody is maintained
Properly mark all evidence prior to collection and account for it at all times until the crime is solved

Responsibilities include assisting an attorney in legal research, the preparation of documents for hearings or trial, and other support services.
As a graduate, you'll be prepared to:
Interview a client and gather a case history
Conduct both independent and directed legal research and fact gathering activities
Draft pleadings, bills of particulars, motions, wills, contracts, memorandums of law, and other commonly encountered legal documents
