Studies include pharmacological interventions, tracheobronchial suctioning of an already intubated patient, and intravenous therapy. This program follows the guidelines set by the National Scope of Practice Model and is designed to help prepare individuals for licensure as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician by the Tennessee Department of Health, Division of Health Licensure and Regulation, Office of Emergency Medical Services. Upon successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the National Registry written and practical examinations.

Upon successful completions of examinations and other licensure requirements, the student will be eligible for the State of Tennessee EMT license. The EMT renders life support to patients at the scene of their injuries or illnesses and prepares these patients for transport to the hospital.

This is a disciplined, scientific profession which requires precision and accuracy in various skills such as patient assessment, medication therapy, EKG interpretation and monitoring, intravenous therapy, patient movement, and management of any trauma or medical emergency encountered. While care and attention to detail are fundamental, a commitment to the healing arts is essential. EMS providers must demonstrate concern for the sick and injured, and must be able to manage the patients, their families, and bystanders with understanding and compassion. EMS providers primarily work in the pre-hospital setting, but opportunities are increasing for employment in hospitals, industry, public safety organizations, and free-standing emergency clinics.

The Paramedic Program Certificate is a three semester program that includes classroom, clinical, and field instruction. Paramedics are responsible for all Basic EMT skills plus Advanced Life Support Skills such as medication administration, endotracheal intubation, ECG monitoring and interpretation, defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion, comprehensive patient assessment, and advanced management of medical and trauma emergencies. Medical laboratory testing plays a crucial role in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases as well as monitoring and maintaining patient health. Approximately 75% of all medical diagnostic and treatment decisions are based on the testing performed by Laboratory Science professionals. Medical Laboratory Technicians, also known as MLTs, perform these tests on blood and other body fluids using analytical procedures and state-of-the-art-instrumentation. We perform testing in a variety of specialty areas within the laboratory including testing to identify microorganisms that cause disease, to detect blood cell abnormalities such as anemia and leukemia, blood clotting disorders, blood compatibilities for transfusions and quantifying of chemical constituents such as glucose, protein, cholesterol or specific medications.
