This four-hour Scissor Lift Training/Certification is designed to train the Operator on: Equipment Characteristics, Pre-Operation Inspection, Fall Protection Requirements for Aerial Lifts, Observation, Written Test, and Hands-On Operation. All training follows the OSHA Standards under 1910.67 and 1926.453.

This course includes classroom instruction, driver observations and testing that will enhance your operator performance to reduce accidents. Each participant will perform the following requirements: successful passing of the written test, daily checklist requirements, work environment hazard recognition walk through, battery changing/charging, fueling operations and successful hands-on practical exercise.

This two day 10-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) course is designed for anyone involved in the construction industry. This instructor led hazard recognition training is intended as an orientation to OSHA standards and covers safety and health hazards workers may face on construction work sites. The course places special emphasis on hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention.

This program offers hands-on experience to provide practical experience in various facets of the construction trades including blueprint reading, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, wiring and more. Graduates of this program may work as construction labroers, construction supervisors/foremen, brick masons and construction carpenters.

The Illinois Department of Transportation has funded this program to expand the number of people in historically underrepresented populations who enter a highway construction career. This is an intensive program that addresses skills necessary for acceptance into a highway construction career: math for the trades, job readiness, and technical skills coursework. Students will leave the completed highway construction careers training with the following certifications: OSHA 10, Forklift, CPR/First Aid Training, Flagger, and Scissor lift. Students will have gained the opportunity to excel when applying for a new career with high-wage earning potential.

Students can train for a trucking career with LLCC’s Truck Driver Training program, which combines both classroom and a hands-on approach to obtaining a class A commercial driver’s license with all endorsements. Classes are taught by professionals who have years of teaching experience as well as over-the-road driving experience. Students can complete the program in four weeks (day) or six weeks (night). Upon completion, students have the basic skills to become a safe, professional, commercial driver and secure an entry-level position in the trucking industry.

If so, explore a career in nursing! Nursing offers a variety of opportunities, such as specializing by type of patient, health condition or work environment. LLCC Associate Degree Nursing prepares students to fulfill the duties of a registered professional nurse (RN). The program includes a combination of classroom, lab and clinical components. Graduates of the ADN program are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN examination, which is the national licensing examination for RNs. With a consistent student pass rate of approximately 90 percent or greater, you can feel confident that our program will prepare you to successfully complete this examination.

Becoming a licensed practical nurse (LPN) is a career that offers many opportunities to pursue different paths and advancement options. LPNs generally work under the supervision of registered nurses and care for the ill, injured, convalescent and disabled. Lincoln Land Community College’s practical nurse program includes classroom, lab and clinical experience to prepare students to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurse (NCLEX-PN).

Certified nursing assistants (CNAs) can have a major impact on the care that patients receive. CNAs assist patients with basic healthcare needs or daily living activities and help them maintain their dignity during illness or injury. LLCC’s basic nurse assistant program includes classroom, lab and clinical experience. Classes are held on the main campus in Springfield and at LLCC-Beardstown, LLCC-Jacksonville, LLCC-Litchfield and LLCC-Taylorville. Students who successfully complete the program, are eligible to take the required Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) nurse aide competency exam. LLCC CNAs are employed in nursing homes, hospitals and home health settings.

The medical assistant bridge program grants qualified certified nursing assistants the opportunity to enter the medical assistant field. The accelerated curriculum provides students the knowledge and skills needed to function in the role of a medical assistant. 

Ensuring sterile medical equipment for patient health and infection control. In 16 weeks you can receive the needed training to sit for an exam to become a central sterile service technician, who plays a vital role in hospital and ambulatory surgery centers. For patient health and infection control, medical professionals need sterile and functioning surgical instruments. Central sterile service technicians are responsible for the decontamination, preparation, packaging, sterilization and storage, handling and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and sterile medical supplies. LLCC’s program includes a combination of classroom instruction and laboratory experience. Classes are offered in fall and spring semesters.

The Surgical Technology program is designed for students who are looking to pursue a career as a Certified Surgical Technologist. The program is two years long and upon completion the students earn their Associates Degree in Applied Science in Surgical Technology. National certification as a surgical technologist requires graduates to pass the examination administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting to become a Certified Surgical Technologist. This national examination is offered as part of the completion of the program. The first two semesters of the program consist of didactic and lab work in our mock operating room. The last three semesters consist of didactic and over 950 hours of clinical learning experiences. Certified Surgical Technologist are in high demand and career opportunities include working in hospital operating rooms, delivery rooms, ambulatory care centers, physician offices and central sterilizing departments. A number are also employed as instructors and directors of surgical technology programs.

LLCC’s transition program is designed for students who are currently a CST and are interested in getting their associate of applied science (AAS) degree in surgical technology. Obtaining the associate degree creates other career advancement opportunities, which can lead to increased achievement, compensation and personal satisfaction.

Dental assistants greatly increase the efficiency of the dentist in delivery of quality oral health care. Their main responsibility is to assist with and provide direct patient care alongside dentists and dental hygienists.

A diagnostic medical sonographer is a highly skilled professional who provides patient care services. The sonographer uses specialized sonographic equipment to create images of structures within the human body. Sonographers have direct patient contact and may provide this service in a variety of medical settings where the physician is responsible for the use of and interpretation of appropriate procedures. LLCC’s program prepares students to secure their American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography credentials and entry-level work in the abdomen and obstetrics/gynecology specialty areas. Vascular instruction is also included in the coursework.

Vascular ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to scan blood vessels (visceral and peripheral) within the human body. Vascular sonographers obtain information about the health of blood vessels and the velocity and quality of blood flow to assist reading physicians, vascular surgeons and/or interventionalists in the diagnosis and treatment of vascular disease. Sonographers have direct patient contact and may provide this service in a variety of medical settings. LLCC’s program is designed for currently registered, working general or cardiac sonographers who wish to expand their knowledge and skill set to include vascular technology in preparation for board examination.

The program prepares students to work with clinical coordinators or practice administrators. As a Clinical Medical Assistant you will be involved in the comprehensive medical billing and setup of patients for medical facilities. You will also be involved in the practice and management of a medical office in areas such as receptionist duties, telephone techniques, appointment scheduling, verbal and written communications, medical and non-medical record management. You will learn basic patient setup for triage care and perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians and other health practitioners run smoothly.

Medical coding is one of the fastest growing professions in the current job market. Medical coders convert health diagnoses, procedures, medical services and equipment into universal medical codes and make sure they are applied correctly for medical billing purposes. LLCC Medical Coding includes CPT and ICD-10 coding along with human anatomy and physiology, medical insurance billing and an internship. Upon completion of the program, students may choose to receive professional certification in the medical coding field. LLCC’s unique NDT program puts you on the path to a good-paying and rewarding career. With a nearly 100 percent job placement record, most graduates have job offers before completing the 21-month program. LLCC’s program, one of just 23 in the country, is located at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, which provides access to direct contact with patients, hospital equipment and facilities. Program graduates have the skills to succeed in the workforce as an ND technologist in a hospital lab, clinic, research facility and physicians’ offices.

Consider a career in a rapidly-growing and rewarding allied health profession! Occupational therapy assistants help people develop or recover skills needed for daily living and working. They help injured or ill patients do therapeutic activities and teach patients with permanent disabilities how to use specialized equipment. LLCC’s occupational therapy assistant (OTA) degree program prepares students to perform these and related tasks under the direction and supervision of an occupational therapist. LLCC OTA graduates are working as occupational therapy assistants in hospitals, outpatient clinics, nursing homes, schools and home health settings. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapy assistant administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Following successful completion of this exam, the individual will be a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).

The phlebotomy training course designed to prepare students for entry level competencies as phlebotomists. Phlebotomists are skilled health care professionals who have been trained to handle and process blood and other specimens for laboratory analysis using venipuncture and micro collection techniques. Upon completion of the course, students will be prepared to work as a phlebotomist and be eligible to take the ASCP certification exam.

Health care professionals who perform radiography and provide patient care are called radiographers. They create radiographic images that are used to diagnose a wide range of pathologies and injuries. Most patients coming to a hospital or clinic will have an x-ray procedure of some kind to assist in the diagnosis of their problem. Radiographers work with patients as young as newborns and as old as centenarians. They must enjoy working with people of all ages and backgrounds who arrive with injuries or diseases that require swift and accurate diagnosis. This program prepares students for an occupation in the professional field of medical radiography (X-ray technology). Students are involved in approximately 1,500 contact hours of clinical experience during the two-year program. National certification as a radiographer requires graduates to pass the examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. In addition, many states, including Illinois, require graduates to hold a license to practice medical radiography.

LLCC’s 21-month program puts you on the path to an exciting career as a respiratory therapist, providing diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients of all ages. Bedside, in the emergency room or in an ambulance, respiratory therapy practitioners are vital members of the lifesaving team. With a nearly 100 percent job placement record, most graduates have job offers before completing the 21-month program. LLCC’s program is located at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, providing access to direct patient contact, hospital equipment and facilities. Program graduates have the skills to succeed in the workforce in hospitals, medical transport companies, home health, physicians’ offices and sleep labs.

With pet ownership on the rise, the need for skilled veterinary assistants is in great demand. Veterinary assistants work directly with Veterinarians and veterinarian technicians in private practice, hospitals and clinics, animal shelters, animal control facilities, pet stores and kennels.

Designed by the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC), an industry-led, nationally recognized, training, assessment and certification organization, this program focuses on the core technical competencies needed by incumbent and entry-level production workers in industrial, manufacturing and other technically intensive fields.

To complete the AES in two years, the calculus sequence (starting with MAT 131) should begin in the first semester. Students unprepared for MAT 131 should consider completing MAT 113 and MAT 120 during the summer term preceding their first fall semester at LLCC.

Topics include basic blueprint interpretation, including electrical wiring diagrams and symbols; electricity voltage, amperage, resistance and power; mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic power; industry safety practices; and the systematic approach to troubleshooting utilizing blueprints, schematics, documentation and logical thinking.

Mechatronics is an integrated skill set which includes intermediate and advanced industrial electricity, fluid power, mechanical, control, and computer knowledge and application. Training includes programmable logic controllers (PLCs), automation and robotics.

This program is designed to train students in the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical power lines.Students will receive hands-on experience and will be required to climb power poles. This applied science program of study must be taken in its entirety to meet degree requirements.

Electrical linemen install or repair cables or wires used in electrical power or other distribution systems, which can include working on overhead power lines or underground electrical systems. LLCC’s electrical distribution lineman program prepares students for a lineman apprenticeship with electrical cooperatives, investor-owned utilities, municipalities, cable companies and private contractors.
