Los Angeles Pierce College

The Addiction Studies Program is a clinical psychology program with a philosophy to de-pathologize individuals struggling with co-occurring disorders, and to provide an in-depth understanding of the impact of diverse addictions on the individual, family, and community. This program prepares students to effectively address the trauma from which many individuals struggling with addiction suffer, which can include domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, sexual abuse, and dislocation. Students learn to become advocates for healing and transformation, employing prevention, intervention, and treatment strategies utilizing strengths-based perspectives and evidence-based practices.

Criminal Justice is the system of practices and institutions of governments directed at upholding social control, deterring and mitigating crime, and sanctioning those who violate laws with criminal penalties and rehabilitation efforts. The criminal justice system consists of three main parts: (1) law enforcement (police); (2) adjudication (courts); and (3) corrections (jails, prisons, probation and parole). In a criminal justice system, these distinct agencies operate together both under the rule of law and as the principal means of maintaining the rule of law within society. And, Pierce’s criminal justice program is different than most in that it is transfer based program meaning that you as a student are not wasting your time and money taking a criminal justice course at Pierce.

The Engineering Design & Technology discipline at Pierce College covers computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting topics and the engineering design process, with applications in mechanical & manufacturing engineering. Students learn CAD software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks. Students in the EGD TEK 210 course take the Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) exam.

Computer Science Information Technology Department

Computer Science Information Technology Program

The curriculum provides training in the fundamentals, electronic devices, computer aided design and analysis, communications, microwaves, digital systems, microprocessors, linear systems, and operational amplifiers.The program is a mix of theory presentations in the classroom with extensive hands-on training in laboratories featuring state-of-the-art equipment.

The program consists of courses in manual machining (IND TEK 130, 230, 330, 332); CNC (IND TEK 140, 244, 248, 444, 448); CAM (IND TEK 346); and GD&T (IND TEK 105). Many machining/CNC students also take courses in Engineering Design & Technology, Electronics, and Welding.

The associate degree is offered to prepare the student to work in manufacturing as a machinist, CNC operator, or similar.
