The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) works under the supervision of a licensed nurse in adult care homes (nursing homes), hospitals, clinics, and other environments where residents/patients benefit from assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) to include eating, bathing and personal hygiene, dressing, transferring and repositioning, and mobility. During the course students develop nursing care skills, demonstrate and understand how to work safely, and develop empathy and appreciation for the person who lives in a long-term care environment. Competencies are evaluated in classroom, lab, and clinical experiences. After completing the course and passing the state test, the student is credentialed as a Certified Nurse Aide in Kansas. The CNA credential is required for employment as a CNA and is often required for admission to nursing and other professional health care education programs. The course follows the curriculum specified by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS).

Phlebotomists are responsible for collecting blood, urine, and other samples, appropriately packaging them, and preparing them to be sent for off-site or on-site analysis as indicated by the requisition. Due to the nature of phlebotomists' jobs, an ability to read and follow careful directions is imperative in order to ensure the safety and accuracy of patients' specimen collection and test results. Data entry skills and basic knowledge of medical software are an added bonus as patient and specimen information must be inputted manually following proper protocol and procedure.

This course provides an introduction to the principles and practices of phlebotomy. Participants will learn terminology and procedures for infection control and safety while developing skills in specimen collection and equipment use.
