Upon completion, the student may be eligible for listing as a Nurse Aide I and other selected Nurse Aide registries as determined by the local program of study.
This course includes basic nursing skills required to provide safe, competent personal care for individuals.
Emphasis is placed on person centered care, the aging process, safety, care of the elderly during emergencies, legal and ethical issues, communication, infection prevention, vital signs, height and weight measurements, elimination, nutrition, basic restorative care, rehabilitation, dementia, mental health and end of life care.
Upon successful completion, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills for the entry level practice of the nurse aide I. Students will be eligible to test for listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry by successful completion of the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program administered by the North Carolina State testing agency.
The Nurse Aide I Training Course is being offered as a eight (8) week class.
This course is designed to provide a review of the Nurse Aide I core content
to prepare individuals who have been
or are currently listed on a Nurse Aide I Registry, have successfully completed a state approved training program, hold a state recognized health care credential from any state, or as military personnel who have had medical/corpsman training to test for the Nurse Aide I State Exam.
This is a forty (40) hour course composed of 24 online curriculum hours and 16 lab hours for skills review.
24-hours online will review the following Nurse Aide I curriculum content:
• Basic nursing skills
• Personal care skills
• Recognition of mental health and social
service needs
• Care of cognitively impaired residents • Basic restorative services
• Resident rights
Lab activities are required (16 hours), but there are no clinical rotations.

The class is limited to the rst 10 eligible students and must have 6 students enrolled for class to make.
This course provides theory and
clinical experiences needed for the proper collection of blood and other specimens used for diagnostic testing. Emphasis is placed on ethics, legalities, medical terminology, safety and universal precautions, health care delivery systems, patient relations,
anatomy and physiology, and specimen collection. Upon completion, students should be able to safely perform procedures necessary for specimen collections on patients in various healthcare settings and may be eligible for national certification as phlebotomy technicians.
The Practical Nursing curriculum provides knowledge and skills to integrate safety and quality into nursing care to meet the
needs of the holistic individual which impact health, quality of life, and achievement of potential.
Course work includes and builds upon the domains of healthcare, nursing practice, and the holistic individual. Content empha- sizes safe, individualized nursing care and participation in the interdisciplinary team while employing evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and informatics.
