

The Addictions Studies Certificate provides the educational and practical training hours required by NJ State Law for certification as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC). Students in the program complete:
270 hours of approved alcohol and drug education in certain domain areas
300 hours of supervised practical training in alcohol and drug counseling
30 alcohol and drug abuse self-help group meetings
This certificate offers students an opportunity to enter the field of addiction studies upon graduation and, after completing their supervised work experience, to apply for CADC certification. Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
Demonstrate a strong foundational knowledge in addictions counseling as evidenced by discussing the key addictions theories, classic research studies, and recent trends in addiction.
Apply foundational knowledge of addictions counseling in the clinical setting to people struggling with substance abuse.
Evaluate the validity and ethics of addictions counseling research studies and psychological practices.
Create written documents regarding addictions counseling using APA style that are clear, well-organized, and grammatically accurate.
The Human Services Program combines coursework in the social sciences to prepare students in helping clients cope with and/or prevent social and personal problems. Human Service professionals perform a wide range of occupations and in a variety of settings including schools, group homes, community mental health facilities, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, halfway houses and substance abuse program facilities. Students who complete the Human Services degree program will qualify for employment as Human Service assistants in many agencies. They will also meet the prerequisites for admission to a Social Work program at senior institutions.

The degree is designed for students to gain foundational knowledge and skills in order to secure borders, airports, waterways and seaports; prepare for and respond to natural and man-made disasters; provide counter-terrorism and law enforcement intelligence support; and employ the latest security technology. It can be completed in two years, with credit hours totaling 61-64. We offer evening and online classes and have an average professor/student ratio of 1:15. This degree is designed to transfer. Students may choose to take advantage of our dual admissions agreement with New Jersey City University’s National Security Studies Bachelor of Science program, which is offered on both the NJCU and MCC campus. This program is offered in cooperation with Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools. It combines classroom and laboratory experience with paid on-the-job training. This program is certified by the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation (NATEF).

The curriculum is rigorous and includes general education, science courses and dental hygiene courses. Students complete two years of academic study including clinical practice under the supervision of Middlesex County College faculty in the college’s Dental Hygiene clinic and external clinical practice sites. General education and science courses may be completed prior to admission to the program or concurrently with the dental hygiene program courses.
A Dental Hygienist is a licensed professional who provides oral health care to patients in dental offices, public health facilities, long-term care facilities, and other settings. The services provided by Dental Hygienists include performing oral examinations, oral cancer screenings, scaling, root planning, polishing, exposure of oral radiographs of the teeth and related oral structures, application of topical fluoride and pit and fissure sealants, and providing patient education in the prevention of oral disease.
Dental Hygienists incorporate education and prevention with provision of clinical services to ensure delivery of optimal oral care. Individuals interested in the profession should enjoy helping others, display manual dexterity and demonstrate above average communication, interpersonal and decision-making skills.
During the final semester of the program, students are eligible to take the Dental Hygiene National Board and the North East Regional Board Examinations. Upon graduation and successful completion of these board examinations, the graduate may apply for and take a state licensure examination.
