An Emergency Medical Services Paramedic, through performance of patient assessments and provision of emergency medical care, strives to meet the goals of preventing and reducing mortality and morbidity due to illness and injury. Paramedics primarily provide care to emergency patients in an out of hospital setting. The EMSÂ program prepares the graduate for a career as a certified EMT Paramedic. A graduate of the EMSÂ Program is a highly-skilled, health care provider. The curriculum includes a balance of EMS and college level courses. The EMS courses are designed to assist the student to maintain high-quality patient care. The graduate will be able to recognize, assess, and manage medical emergencies of acutely ill or injured persons in any pre hospital settings. Paramedics are responsible and accountable to medical direction, the public, and their peers. Paramedics work in the field under the direction of a physician through written standing orders and radio communications. Paraprofessionals serve in a support capacity including but not limited to facilitating the educational instruction and direct or indirect supervision of students under the direction of a classroom teacher. They provide instructional and clerical support for teachers in elementary, middle and high school settings. The degree program has two options: 1) Workforce Program, allowing the student to seek immediate employment upon degree completion, or 2) Transfer Program, allowing the student to transfer into a four-year teacher education program.
