The ASN program is a 72-semester hour, five-semester program designed to produce educated, technically advanced, competent, and caring individuals. Under the supervision and guidance of the nursing faculty, students in the ASN program receive classroom instruction and coordinated clinical experiences in the nursing care of clients at local hospitals and community agencies.

The ASN program provides a strong foundation in the practice of nursing and prepares students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to function as an entry-level registered nurse in a variety of healthcare settings. Such settings include, but are not limited to, hospitals, skilled-nursing facilities, home health care, clinics, physician’s offices, government or private industries, and public health agencies.

Graduates of the ASN program who meet the program requirements are eligible to write the National Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). Upon successful completion of the NCLEX-RN, graduates are then licensed and are employable as registered nurses in the state in which they intend to practice.

For graduates who wish to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, North Georgia Technical College has established transfer agreements with select four-year colleges to facilitate a student’s transition from an ASN to BSN degree.
