Firefighter

Driver/Operator Certificate of Proficiency

See Details

These men and women run headlong into danger, as others are running away, to protect and save lives and property. It is a job where you perform an essential community service while earning a rewarding salary and, generally, employee benefits that may include a pension package. NPC provides a quality fire science degree in northeastern Arizona.

The NPC Fire Science program offers a dual approach for training in the firefighting field: 1) basic instruction for the new recruit and 2) continuing education programs for current fire service professionals serving in area fire departments seeking further training and job promotions.

Using a fire academy approach, through classroom instruction and hands-on training, recruits study fire-fighting and fire-prevention techniques, local building codes, and emergency medical procedures. You'll learn how to fight fires with standard equipment, including axes, chain saws, fire extinguishers and ladders. Rigorous physical training is an integral part of the instruction. Basic wildland firefighting techniques are covered, allowing graduates to test for their "red card," required to work as "hot shots" and on wildland engine companies.

Medical Assistant

Medical Assistant Certificate of Applied Science

See Details

NPC’s medical assistant program (MDA) equips you with the clinical and administrative skills you need to be an invaluable asset in a busy medical office. Graduates of the program are engaged in challenging careers in the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors and other health care practitioners.

Our program meets, and in many ways exceeds, the Arizona State Board of Medical Examiner training requirements. You can be certain you are gaining the necessary knowledge to succeed in this rapidly growing field.

When you graduate from the Medical Assistant program, you will be fully prepared to assist with the following medical office tasks: phlebotomy, medication administration, electrocardiography, vital sign measurement, physical and specialty exam preparation and sterilization and disinfection. This program also introduces you to basic anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, computer software applications, word processing, medical transcription and insurance coding and billing.

NPC's Medical Assistant program includes a 160-hour externship, where you actually work in a medical office or hospital setting beside other medical professionals. Externship opportunities exist in many local communities, and many externship partners offer paid positions to qualified individuals upon completing the externship!

Certified Nursing Assistant

Nursing Assistant Certificate

See Details

Nursing Assistants, sometimes called nursing aides, help provide basic care to patients such as bathing and dressing, helping patients eat, taking vital signs, lifting patients into beds and wheelchairs, providing and emptying bedpans and changing bed sheets.

In nursing homes and residential care facilities, assistants are often the principal caregivers. They have more contact with residents than other members of the staff. Because some residents stay in a nursing home for months or years, assistants may develop close relationships with their residents. Some nursing assistants also may dispense medication, depending on their training level and the state in which they work.

Nursing assistant training at NPC prepares graduates for healthcare careers. The required five-credit course, NAT 101 Nursing Assistant, features both lecture and hands-on lab classes that include all required content and hours specified by the Arizona Nurse Practice Act. Upon successful completion of the course you become eligible to take the Arizona State Board of Nursing examination to become a Certified or Licensed Nursing Assistant (CNA/LNA).

NPC's Pharmacy Technician course provides you with the broad range of knowledge necessary for employment — including an introduction to medical and pharmaceutical terminology, basic anatomy as related to the pharmacology of medications and studies in pharmaceutical calculations.

Pharmacy Technician Certification Board
Upon completion, you'll have the knowledge required to pass the national certification exam offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PCTB). Certification gives you that helpful edge when seeking employment in this area and allows you to work in other states should you re-locate.

Surgical Technologist

Surgical Technology, A.A.S.

See Details

Surgical technologists assist in surgical operations. They prepare operating rooms, arrange equipment, and help doctors during surgeries.

Before an operation, surgical technologists prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment. They also prepare patients for surgery by washing and disinfecting incision sites, positioning the patients on the operating table, covering them with sterile drapes, and taking them to and from the operating room. Surgical technologists prepare sterile solutions and medications used in surgery and check that all surgical equipment is working properly. They help the surgical team put on sterile gowns and gloves.

During an operation, surgical technologists pass instruments and supplies to surgeons and first assistants. They also hold retractors, hold internal organs in place during the procedure, or set up robotic surgical equipment. Technologists also may handle specimens taken for laboratory analysis.

Once the operation is complete, surgical technologists may apply bandages and other dressings to the incision site. They may also help transfer patients to recovery rooms and restock operating rooms after a procedure.

There is a high demand for certified surgical technologists. NPC, in partnership with regional medical centers, has established an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree program in Surgical Technology to meet this demand at the lowest tuition rate in Arizona. Opportunities are available to specialize in a variety of services such as robotics, orthopedics, plastics, trauma, cardiac, vascular, urology, gynecology, and be an integral part of a skilled surgical team
