The Welding and Cutting program, located on the Senatobia campus, is designed to provide you with the latest in practical, hands-on coursework driven by current industry standards. Students are often able to work on “live” jobs, projects for the institution and community. Our faculty member is instructor-certified by the American Welding Society.

Getting ahead in welding is all about being open to opportunities. Taking courses and working hard are important aspects. Being respectful and learning on the job from welders who have been doing it for a living. There is almost no limit to what welding can do, especially since developments in the technology continually improve its accuracy, quality and versatility.

Today’s advanced technology has influenced changes in the industry. In addition to possessing good manual dexterity, welders must also have a solid understanding of math, science and electronics in order to be effective in their jobs. Our training program can provide you with that and more.

Civil Engineering Technician

Civil Engineering Technology at the Senatobia campus, is a rigorous, high quality program designed to provide you with instruction based on the practical application of the principles of civil engineering technology. The program covers topics such as drafting, surveying, construction materials, GPS/GIS and more. Both the Civil Engineering Technology Associate in Applied Science degree and the Civil Technology Certificate of Completion are available.

A graduate is prepared to work with the surveyor or civil engineer in the performance of general engineering practices which may include GIS design, drawing and interpreting working drawings, determining equipment, materials and labor required to complete a project, and performing various tests required for construction. Small class size allows our instructors to give plenty of one-on-one instruction. Students who graduate from Northwest Mississippi Community College’s Civil Technology program receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree or a certificate in civil technology (complete a minimum of 32 semester credit hours in the program).

The Cardiovascular Technology program, located on the DeSoto campus, is designed to train students through didactic, laboratory, and clinical experiences for a career in invasive and non-invasive cardiology. After completion of the program, an invasive cardiovascular technologist (CVT) can work in a number of different areas in a hospital or physician’s office.

Students will be trained to work in cardiac catheterization laboratories utilizing x-ray and monitoring equipment to perform sophisticated tests to determine the condition of a patient’s coronary arteries and heart. They will also be trained to work in a cardiology laboratory where electrodes, microphones, and ultrasound equipment are used to determine the condition of a patient’s heart without invasive procedures.

Rewarding careers in teaching await those who attain a degree in early childhood education. Research shows that the early years are the most important, and the educators who teach in daycares, preschools, Head Start programs and elsewhere are a valuable piece of the educational system.

By learning about child development, teaching methods, creative play, and other topics, students in early childhood education programs are prepared to work with children in a hands-on learning environment.
