Northwest Technical College

The Automotive Service program at Northwest Technical College features state-of-the-art labs equipped with current service and testing equipment so students are well-prepared to work with today’s technology. Throughout their training, they learn the theory and techniques behind a variety of service and diagnostic procedures necessary to maintain the vehicles operating on our roadways. Classroom and hands-on training will cover topics including brakes, power-train systems and an introduction to hybrids.

This 60-credit AAS degree prepares graduates to become assistant teachers in a center-based setting such as a child care center, early childhood family education program or Head Start. With additional experience hours, graduates meet qualifications to work as center-based child care teachers, child care resource and referral agents or food program representatives.

This 60-credit Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree prepares graduates to become a dental assistant working under the direction of a dentist in general dentistry, dental specialties, orthodontics and oral/maxillofacial surgery. Advanced coursework includes anatomy and physiology, microbiology and college courses in writing, general psychology, intro to public speaking and general education electives.

This 45-credit diploma prepares graduates to become a chair-side dental clinician qualified to work in a variety of dental practices or advance to an AAS. Courses focus on dental anatomy, dental radiology, dental pharmacology, dental ethics and jurisprudence and dental practice management, as well as clinical assisting.

This 60-credit AAS degree prepares graduates to become a health care administrative specialist for medical office management. Graduates will gain skills in patient scheduling, medical record maintenance, patient billing and medical office management, as well as a strong professional foundation with courses in college writing, ethics, bioethical issues, intro to public speaking, human resources management, intro to business, supervisory leadership and budget and financial management.

This 36-credit diploma prepares graduates for a position in Health Care Administrative Support to assist with medical office management or as a first step to pursue an AAS as a Health Care Administrative Specialist.

This 60-credit AAS prepares graduates for a career in medical coding for patient account management, medical billing and insurance claims processing. Graduates gain proficiency in the health care industry’s numerical coding system and a strong professional foundation with courses in college writing, bioethical issues, general psychology, intro to public speaking, business communications and customer relations management.

This 29-credit certificate prepares graduates for entry-level medical coding positions or to advance their studies with a diploma or AAS in Medical Coding.

This 42-credit diploma prepares graduates for medical coding positions or to advance their studies with an AAS in Medical Coding. Graduates gain proficiency in the health care industry’s numerical coding system. 

This 3-credit course prepares graduates to become a nursing assistant. Course completion is required for the Practical Nursing Diploma and the Associate of Science (AS) degree in Nursing — Generic Track. Students who complete the course are also eligible to take the state certification exam for the Minnesota Department of Health’s nursing assistant registry.

This 38-credit diploma prepares nurses to work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), providing bedside care and interacting closely with patients. Graduates are eligible to apply for licensure as an Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), and they may continue for an AS in nursing at NTC.
