They work alongside mechanical and electrical engineers. Their expertise is needed in the energy, computer, plastic and aerospace industries. Worksites can vary from a factory setting to an oil drilling rig in the ocean.

Electro-mechanical technician jobs typically require an associate degree or a certificate. Training for electro-mechanical technicians is offered at technical schools and community colleges. Training in mechatronics provides an understanding of mechanical systems, electronic systems, control systems and computer systems — the key systems on which this occupation works.
